The idea behind Tucky and Lou was born just before our own little Tucky came into the world. We have a very busy toddler and we were heading into the cold New York winter months. My husband and I had an "oh cr@p" moment and thought to ourselves: how are we going to keep our toddler entertained while tending to a needy newborn?

My nesting instincts went into overdrive when I was eight months pregnant with Tucker a.k.a. Tucky. Each night I began preparing morning baskets with “projects” for my daughter, Vale a.k.a. Lou. I prepared different activities and my daughter would wake up each morning and sprint into her playroom excited to see what was waiting for her. I made every single project from scratch and generated a ton of inspiration from Etsy and Pinterest. One day I stumbled across DIY Play dough. As an avid baker and semi- crunchy mom I was sold on the idea of making this myself rather than buying the popular brands that contain toxic ingredients. I became obsessed with getting the texture and consistency just right - I made over 30 variations from recipes I found online. Nothing I found was good enough so I applied my knowledge of baking to our dough and tweaked the recipe down to the tablespoon until it was perfect. During this process I also discovered that I, myself, as a 30-year-old have sensory sensitivity and this realization yielded a dough that did not leave a dry crumbly film on my hands. All of these reasons (and more!) are why we are so proud of this Play dough. It has a smooth, silky texture, smells amazing and is fun to play with! It was also very important to us to create a dough firm enough to strengthen those little hand muscles that will eventually need to get strong for writing. 

Of all the things I made, Play dough was one of the activities I enjoyed the most while playing with my daughter. My love for baking combined with my passion for creating for my kids made this process fun from start to finish. I found playing with play dough to be therapeutic, and a great way of building connection, staying grounded and  having fun, silly and meaningful conversations that came naturally. That is what lead us to build a kit similar to the morning basket I was building each day. This is a great product for busy moms to grab off the shelf for their kids that will keep them entertained for hours!
